Tun Tavern was a historic colonial establishment in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, widely celebrated as the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps. On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the formation of the Continental Marines, and Captain Samuel Nicholas used the tavern as the very first recruiting station.
Proceeds goes towards Junior Marines & Spouses to attend. “Devil Dog” is a famous nickname for United States Marines, originating from World War I. According to Marine Corps lore, German soldiers fighting at the Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918 referred to the Marines as “Teufelhunden” (translating to “Devil Dogs”) because of their ferocious and relentless fighting spirit.

It represents a highly revered tradition, signifying that a recruit has successfully completed rigorous training and earned the title of U.S. Marine.
